Okay, so I'm re-working on Earnest (which is IL, I know, but still) and I can't come up with an ambiance background for the Flat scene in London. There are plenty of pre-made city sounds/apartment stuff, but none that really fit the 19th century.

Advice? Help? Anyone have anything that would work? I've looked into ticking clocks, but most have chimes attached (and are quite short). Not that it's a bad idea.

See, the better I get elsewhere, the more helpful I can be here (okay, that was a bribe to help me *grins*)

I would also throw in a horse and carriage - muffled - distant but the equivalent of traffic for your setting.

Not a constant noise - just an occassional one - clip clop and all that on cobbles.  Really says pre-automobile city.
