Ok you lot.

Let's get at it.

What type of equipment do you use?

I record my audio on:

Dell Latitude D820 with Vista Ultimate, with 4gb of RAM.
I use an AKG Perception 100 mic
A U-Control (UCA202) from Behringer

and a EuroRack UB802 Mixer (which the wonderful Bruce Busby
GAVE to me for the price of shipping!)

NOW, what do YOU use???

I am on a 2 GHz iMac Intel Core Two Duo with a Blue Snowball Mic.

I edit audio in GarageBand and Audacity.

And, when recording my VA lines, I use Audio Recorder and I usually read the lines in Tofu.

Dave, you and I sound like a Mac vs PC commercial Wink

My mic: Blue Snowball

My software (Macintosh): Freeverse SoundStudio

SoundStudio is a nice single-track audio editing application. I like it.

For mixing, I use Apple's SoundTrack Pro.

You'd be surprised how much it helps to have the lines formatted in columns. It makes the reading much faster. I don't know if there is a similar text reader for Windows or Linux.

Hey Perry, I love that Mic. What do you think of it?

I have used lots of Freeverse Software over the years, but never bothered with SoundStudio. What are it's best/worst qualities?

Yup, I love my Snowball mic. When I have a role that involves shouting, I set it to -10dB and yell away. That's a common feature with good microphones — not unique, but very useful.

I really like SoundStudio, mostly because I'm used to it. I like the interface, am familiar with it's shortcuts, so I can work pretty quickly. It has enough features that I can edit my line recording; not so many features that it's difficult to use. And it's nice to look at. In comparison, I find Audacity clumsy and unlovely (but it's free, so nobody can complain).

SoundStudio also has some automation features — one I use a lot is marking a long recording to be split into separate files during output. Deals with most of the audio formats.

Sincerely,

Perry Whittle
