I hope listeners enjoy the story which was written over a course of several years starting back in 1995. The Rhesus Factor was originally published in Canada in 2005, prior to many of the devastating events that have since shifted much of the content from fiction to fact. As I write this, the Arctic ice cap is melting at a rate not seen in the last 20 million years (that’s not a typo), and is likely to equal if not surpass the 2007 record loss. Rather than recognising it as the planet’s cry for help, countries are squaring off over who gets the largest slice of the Arctic pie. Meanwhile, the US slips further into a state of economic, social, and health care thirdworldisation, Pakistan and India - both nuclear armed - look set to start squabbling over water rights, there’s a major storm in Canada over Biphosphenol-A - sometimes spelled Bisphenol A - (took them long enough) yet the FDA still insists its safe. Also in the US, the entire West Coast salmon industry has collapsed, another hurricane is bearing down on New Orleans, and…

The list goes on.

When you listen to the Rhesus Factor, if you find that events resonate too closely with our current reality, bear in mind that it is a work of fiction, a thought experiment by a geographer that began with the same impetus that drives all writers, ‘What if…?’
