As Slim continues to search for Freder, the trail takes him to the infamous nightclub Yoshiwara, where it’s enigmatic owner is forced to reveal the nature of some of the secrets of the clubs success.

Thea von Harbou, who co-wrote the screenplay with her husband Fitz Lang in 1924, novelized the story in 1926. It is set in a futuristic urban dystopia and examines a common science fiction theme of the day: the social crisis between workers and owers within a capitalistic society.
