Introduction

A Zoo in space. That’s the image I had in my head that lead to Gaia’s Voyages. It was originally conceived as a sci-fi space show with an ecological message. Well, things quickly evolved into something quite a bit different though I’ve not lost sight completely of the ecological theme. It is a thread running through everything as the characters developed voices of their own and dragged me along on their wild adventures. Where will things end up? Even I don’t know and I look forward to finding out!

So far Gaia’s been full of surprises and I just want to thank everyone who has been along for the ride – especially my absolutely fantastic cast. It’s an honor to have you bring my characters to life with your talents and you blow me away each and every episode. I might do the writing and mixing but you all truly make Gaia what it is and are truly an absolute delight to write for and produce. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Gaia’s Voyages is set five centuries in the future. It is a time of peace and prosperity – an era where the greatest achievement of the Galactic Confederation is not a ship of war but a ship of science, exploration, education, and conservation,. Gaia herself is alive as much as any computer can be alive and she is manned by an eccentric crew of Humans, aliens, mechanoids, and even sentient animals and energy beings. We have fighter pilots, Zookeepers with cybernetic limbs, stinkbugs who get lucky, and bad boys with attitude. There’s a Musketeer flying the ship and a parrot manning the com. We even have a little girl who glows in the dark who runs about getting into trouble. And, let’s not forget the mechanoid Chief Engineer who proclaims his love for Gaia to the stars. Those are just the good guys. The bad guys…. Well.. they haven’t had their debut yet but you shall meet them soon enough.

I like to think that Gaia has something for everyone. If you like action then we have space battles and pitched combat one-on-one with lasguns and blades. There’s always comedy to be found – sometimes when you least expect it. Romance is certainly to be found in spades and sometimes with the most unlikely of pairings. We have plots, mystery, and intrigue and there’s more than enough drama to go around. So, to quote Elizabeth “Strap yourselves in. It’s going to be a bumpy ride!”
